Stepping Stockbridge
Whether you’re an Edinburgh local who hasn’t been in a while or a tourist who’s just checked in, Stockbridge is a neighbourhood you should explore in 2026.
Stockbridge’s ‘high street’ features a postcard-perfect strip of family-owned, Scottish businesses - butchers, bakers, cafe’s, lifestyle and fashion stores, plus everything else in between, including a Sunday market, all packed tightly along a few streets.
It’s also a perfectly curated blend of residential life, the routine hum of locals mixed with the curious buzz of tourists. Since we opened Singh Street Cha in June on Deanhaugh Street we’ve settled in nicely and we were so warmly welcomed to the neighbourhood.
Circus Lane, a beautiful cobbled lane of traditional stone mews houses and a hugely popular hot spot for a selfie!
As Edinburgh locals ourselves, we thought we’d write a little piece spotlighting a few of our neighbouring businesses. In no particular order, here are eight (out of many) of our favourite spots in Stockbridge; what’s more, they’re all within a few minutes walk of one another!
1. Joelato
The colourful facade of Joelato
Inspired by childhood memories of eating incredible gelato on holidays in Italy, Perthshire residents and self confessed foodies, Joe Sykes and his wife had the idea to open their own gelato business in Scotland.
After honing their skills at a gelato-making course at the famed Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy, they set up their commercial kitchen in a shipping container in their garden at home. And the business was born.
Joelato launched in 2019 at a local market and with online deliveries and was an instant hit. They later opened in Edinburgh’s Bonny & Wild food market and their Stockbridge shop opened in 2022, garnering cult status with queues out the door and down the street ever since!
The menu features unique rotating flavours, all made by hand using the very best local produce from farms across Perthshire, so it’s not difficult to see why Joelato is so popular.

“Collaborate, don’t compete, is very much a part of our ethos at Singh Street Cha. As is partnering with local suppliers where we can. While we have our own unique concept, we aim to compliment and collaborate with our business neighbours, so we can all flourish and keep our high streets interesting.”
Haj Atwal, co-founder, Singh Street Cha
2. Lannan
Another Scottish success story that’s made its home in Stockbridge is Lannan. Specialising in vinnoiserie, the bakery opened in 2023 and won the prestigious La Liste “Pastry Opening of The Year Award” the following year and has even appeared in Vogue!
The first bakery from young Scottish baker Darcie Maher, it’s been a runaway success, garnering viral fame, long queues (at times starting an hour before opening) and sell-out goods. With an inspiring journey to success, Darcie taught herself to bake by reading about pastry and selling baked goods to locals in her Borders hometown before honing her craft at bakeries and restaurants throughs the UK.
The interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing as the baked goods!
The Lannan menu features Darcie’s signature bakes, from classic viennoiserie to custard slices, pains suisses and cardamom buns, with limited-run creations and using local and seasonal produce.

3. Tribe Yoga
Yoga followed by authentic Indian cha is an ancient, timeless ritual. In Indian yogic temples, cha was often served to yogis by their Guru after sessions to help revitalize them and prepare them for their day. Fast forward to today, true to tradition, you can do both in Stockbridge at Tribe Yoga and Singh Street Cha, albeit minus the Guru!
Tribe’s flagship on Northumberland Street, a well loved wellness spot
Since opening its doors in 2015 Tribe now has five venues in the city, as well as two in London. Providing a wide range of classes including yoga, Pilates, barre and rhythm-based cycle classes, as well as Reformer Pilates, Tribe has a well established following of wellness-seeking regulars.
The New Town studio (located on the edge of Stockbridge) is it’s first location, with Tribe Cycle at Stockbridge Theatre providing a more high energy workout experience.
What resonates with us is Tribe’s focus on community, mental wellbeing and personal growth. So if you’re a visitor to the area looking for some mindful movement, this is where you should book a session!

“There’s so many great spots for a mooch in Stockbridge so we feel blessed to have been able to open our first Singh Street Cha in our own local neighbourhood. We love the energy and it has an authentic focus on community, while still making space for new and innovative ideas. There really is something for everyone.”

4. PARA-DAIZA
PARA-DAIZA is an independent Stockbridge clothing store that retails modern menswear, mindfully cut for metropolitan life. Its clothing sits at the intersection between the spirit of spontaneous travel and the grounded blue-collar industrial look (seen in the likes of Carhartt etc.), taking tasteful inspiration from silhouettes both modern and classic.
PARA-DAIZA’s store-front
Paul Mullen, founder of PARA-DAIZA, is an industry veteran in the world of menswear. Formerly a buyer and partner at the famed ‘Xile’ (1985-2023), one of Edinburgh’s first high-end menswear stores. Although Xile was closed by a large corporation in 2023, Paul’s rich experience in fashion persisted, and the doors to his own label store opened that same year.
With PARA-DAIZA, Paul breathes new life into the Edinburgh menswear scene and is at the forefront of contemporary fashion. A trip to PARA-DAIZA is a must for carefully produced, quality clothing. And you’ll be warmly greeted by the faithful Rita, the Border Collie, at the door.

5. Grow Urban
Grow Urban is a unique concept - a space that exists as both a mindfully curated plant shop, as well as an artisanal coffee spot. Hidden away down a few steps at the foot of St Vincent Street, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Step inside and you’ll be met with a calming atmosphere of well-kept plants, both exotic and familiar, and all very Instagrammable and fitting for any Architectural Digest living room. Tucked at the back of the space is its cafe, where in all directions you’re outnumbered by greenery of all shapes and sizes.
A plant lover’s paradise at Grow Urban
Founded by Graham Savage (another baker on the list!), who sold his prior bakery in Edinburgh in 2017 and took a hiatus to revisit his roots. His mother owned a garden centre in Dumfries and Galloway, and thus Graham rekindled his green thumb and opened Grow Urban in 2019.
We’re all about mindful pauses at Singh Street Cha, and this space brings you the best of both nature and nurture.

6. Sotto
Right opposite Singh Street Cha you’ll find Sotto, an enoteca and trattoria offering an extensive selection of over 200 Italian wines and relaxed dining. Listed in the Michelin Guide 2026, Sotto is the first restaurant and bar for sommerlier-owner James Clark, which opened in 2024.
Lifted from the Michelin guide: “This buzzy wine bar and trattoria is set in the heart of bustling Stockbridge, where you can pop in just for a glass of wine with some olives and salumi around the communal, marble-topped island counter – or choose from the full à la carte of appealingly unfussy Italian dishes. Whether you opt for one of the pastas or the fish of the day, it’s all simple, fresh and wholly enjoyable. The top-notch wine list is almost exclusively Italian, with owner and sommelier James on hand to recommend something to suit.”

7. Treen
Opened in 2018 by fashion graduate and retailer Kat Anderson, Treen is a prominent sustainable fashion and lifestyle destination on St Stephen Street. The store features expertly curated, timeless style staples from a host of independent brands, championing natural fibres, fair manufacturing and enduring design. A true haven for ethical shoppers.
Impeccably styled inside Treen with a neutral, calming backdrop.
Sitting on one of the most charming streets in Stockbridge, filled with lots of creative boutiques, traditional pubs, cocktail bars and design studios, Treen is positioned next to the entrance to the Old Stockbridge Market of 1825. What remains of the 19th century building includes the fluted Greek Doric columns, a detailed gas lamp fixture, and the words: "Stockbridge Market - Butcher Meat, Fresh Fruit, Fish & Poultry.”

8. Inverleith Park
Admittedly, this isn’t a Scottish-owned business, but Inverleith Park is an essential stop in Stockbridge nonetheless!
Although it’s one of many green spaces in Edinburgh (we’re spoiled with beautiful gardens and parks), what it’s known for is its idyllic pond, home to a family of swans and signets who elegantly wade through the waters during the warmer months and have found a rightful place amongst Edinburgh’s celebrities.
The gorgeous view of Edinburgh’s skyline inside Inverleith Park.
Above the pond is a perfect spot to take a seat and admire the view of the city’s skyline and famed New Town architecture - plus our resident volcano Arthur’s Seat. We recommend pairing this view with a Singh Street Cha takeaway! Trust us, a perfectly brewed Indian cha and a hand made samosa enjoyed with friends and/or fur babies in the park is a must.
Beyond this view itself the park expands to a vast green scape flanked by residential homes, allotments, The Botanics and none other than Fette’s College, the inspiration behind Hogwarts!
For locals and tourists alike it’s the perfect place to enjoy a scenic walk with a cup of cha.
